Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 Review

I realized it's been sometime since I have reviewed a product. Oh, how time flies! I  bought the Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 for my dear brother because winter is upon us and his lips are cracked and bleeding. However, he said the balm was "yucky" and greasy. So he gave it to me to use.  Score one for me, right? 

The Claims about the balm:

" A Kiehl’s classic and #1 bestseller, soothing lips since 1969.

•Temporarily protects and helps relieve chapped or cracked lips.

•Helps protect lips from the drying effects of wind and cold weather.

•Formulated with soothing emollients Squalane, Lanolin and Sweet Almond Oil as well as Vitamins A and E"

What I liked about the balm:

• A rich, thick and consistent texture, which reminds me of Vaseline (i.e. petrolatum jelly)
• Clear/colorless
• Glides on easily, effortlessly and smoothly
• Brings instant relief to sore and dry lips without the heaviness or stickiness
• Unlike other products that sits on top of my lips this balm moisturizes and sinks into the skin
• Leaves lips smooth and soft
• Lips appear to be shiny and glossy 
• Does not irritate the skin
• A little bit of the balm goes a long way

*The applicator is blunt and uncomfortable to use...*sigh* I wish it was a slant applicator

 What I disliked about the balm:

• There is no applicator... I strongly dislike using my fingers to apply any lip products
• It's a bit pricey 15 ml for $12.XX
• Low on the SPF spectrum - it should be at least 15! 
• The product is mostly petrolatum jelly - I could have paid a lot less and gotten more product had I purchased a tub of Vaseline

Bottom line: The balm is not mind blowing or awesome. It does it's job and nothing more.

Body Burberry Perfume Review

I was slightly disgusted by my first whiff of Body.  There was a sharp pain in my brain and alarm bells were going off in my head, screaming synthetic and artificial! The initial spike in fragrance hit me hard because it smelled like "skin", musk, or a stuffy c-train packed full of sweaty bodies. 

After the scent calmed down my impression of the fragrance changed dramatically. It is a  fresh yet dewy, clean and cheerful smell but it lacks in the "umph" department.  I am very disappointed with Body. I expected a fragrance that encompasses sensuality with a touch of youth and innocence.

In my opinion, Body is not unique or memorable.  I would not purchase Body because chypre floral does not suit me.  For those who do purchase Body, it is a long-lasting fragrance and very wearable for everyday activities.

L'Oreal Root Rescue Review

L'Oreal Root Rescue is on sale at Zellers for $8.99! I bought a box for my mom to try. The L'Oreal product exceeded my expectations, as well as my mom’s. The product worked perfectly on my mom’s short black hair; it left her hair soft and shiny. The applicator brush makes it quick and easy to apply the product to her hair. Within 10 minutes her grays were evenly and naturally concealed. There was no staining to the scalp and the color blends perfectly with the color she normally uses. She'll definitely recommend L'Oreal Root Rescue and use it again between her colorings.

LUSH Happy Blooming Bath Melt Review

Heaps of calamine powder.

Inventing Happy Blooming took a careful eye for perfection. Helen, inventor of the bath melt, tinkered with the formula for months. She wanted to create a smooth feeling on the skin, like a dry oil, so she used 50% calamine powder to create just the right effect on the skin.

Cherry chops.

The happy, mouth-watering, fruity fragrance is down to Simon's 'Cherry Chops', named in honour of beautiful cherry blossoms. You get three baths out of each one ? just snap off one segment per soak and its blend of calamine, ylang and cocoa butter will leave your skin silky and non-greasy. We think it's blooming marvelous, and we're sure you will too.

Passion flower seed oil

Passion flower oil forms part of that sweet scent and encourages a sense of happiness and calm.

Calamine powder

Powdered calamine soothes and creates a smooth feeling on the skin.

 *My Experience with the Bath Melt:*

•  Price: $6.95 for 60g
• Effectiveness: I break the decadent bath melt into 3 chunks - it breaks into perfect pieces easily.  The rich melt gives off a wonderfully relaxing creamy pink hue and makes my skin smell amazing. The product leaves me with ultra smooth and soft skin  all over without causing chest and back break outs.
• How to use:  I held the product directly under the running tap for a bit before the Happy Blooming Bath melt disolved. 
• Scent: Cherry candy
  
• Cons:It's pricey!
  
• Bottom line: A must have!

LUSH Tea Tree Water: Toner Review

Ah, tea tree: how do we love thee?

Tea tree is extremely soothing and can work wonders on troubled or oily skin. We've also added juniper berry and grapefruit waters to refresh and tone with natural oils.

Mild antiseptic spray.

Use this throughout the day to help tackle blemishes and lift your spirits.

Juniper berry water

Juniper berry oil has many properties, some of which are very beneficial to the skin. The antiseptic quality of the oil is very good for helping oily, spot-prone and acne skins.

*My Experience with the Toner:*

• Price:$8.95 for 100mL
• Cons: I find that this toner is not as effective as my regular drug store brand toner; the tea tree water does not seem to remove makeup and oils as well as drug store brands.  
• Effectiveness: I really like how gentle the Tea Tree Toner is on my skin; the product is not harsh and does not dry out my skin.  The toner removes some blackheads (after multiple uses) and leaves my skin feeling soft and refreshed.
• Bottom Line: I'm on the fence about repurchasing this product or not. I like that the toner doesn't contain alcohol, but the effectiveness is quite mild for me. I'm still searching for "the perfect" toner.
• Grade: 6.5/10

My Experience with the Powder:

• Price:~$12.39 CAD for 22g
• Effectiveness: This is a versitle powder that can be worn alone or on top of foundation and concealer.  The loose powder provides me with continuous full coverage for the whole day.  The product minimizes my pores and soaks up oils, thus giving me a nice matte and natural finish all day. I haven't expereinced any irritations or break outs from using this powder.
• Cons: No SPF protection. I dislike the stiff and rough kabuki brush and the useless tiny mirror. The powder smells like funky virgin olive oil.
• Bottom line: A must have. I would recommend this gentle product for individuals who have oily or combination skin. This is my fave powder. I hope PF does not discontinue making this product. 
• Grade: 9.2/10

*My Experience with the Moisturizer:*

• Price: Original size - 45g for $48.95 CAD;  Sample size: $5
• Texture: The rich moisturizer is very heavy, thick, and creamy kinda like Vaseline.  The product melts on contact with my skin i.e. the cream turns into oil.
• Effectiveness: I have combination skin; oily t-zone in the spring and summer, and super dry skin in the winter. It's a great night cream but the product is too heavy for day use for me. Suprisingly the cream doesn't clog my pores (yayyyy)! With Skin Nanny my skin is blemish-free, and much smoother and softer.
• Scent: Heavenly like a combination of sweet exotic flowers and lavender
• Cons: It's expensive! 
• Bottom line:I would recommend this product for people who have dry skin and those individuals who are looking for a luxurious night cream.
• Grade: 8.5/10

Review of Physicians Formula: Talc- Free Mineral Wear Foundation

* The foundation was a bit darker than my natural skin tone, which is okay - I just looker tanner with the product on. I should have brought it in a shade or two lighter.

*My Experience with the Foundation:*

• Price: $10.45 CAD
• Effectiveness: I hate Marcelle's Matte Finish foundation, because their product makes me break out. Thankfully, I found PF Mineral Wear! This foundation is great for people who have acne prone skin and/or sensitive skin.  The medium coverage foundation has a smooth and creamy texture. The product glides on and it was very easy to blend. Also, the Mineral foundation is comfortable to wear for the first 6-8 hours, and the product didn't irritate my skin at any point of the day.  You only need to use a very small dab of this foundation to cover the whole face and acheive a smooth and natural complexion. 
• Cons: Smudges, feels a bit heavy as the day progresses, no SPF protection.  
• Bottom line: This is the best foundation that I know of for people who have sensitive or acne prone skin. 
• Grade: 7.5/10

 *My Experience with the Face Powder:*

• Price: Approx. $10 CAD
• Net Weight: 0.42 Oz./12g   
• Effectiveness: The neutral and translucent reflective powder brightens up the face and highlights facial features.  You get a dewy complexion and natural finish with the product.  I love that the formula doesn't look dry and powdery on the face, and it diminishes the appearance of pores. 
• Cons: I personally can't use the powder on my whole face without looking oily or greasy. I wish this had SPF coverage then I can skip a step and I don't need to apply sunscreen.
• Bottom line: It is a product I occassionaly use when I go out or photo day at school/ work.  It is something can live without and I would only purchase the product if it was on sale.
• Grade: 7.2/10

Review LUSH Cosmetics Solid Shampoo: Karma Komba

This Karma scented shampoo uses lavendin oil to promote a relaxed attitude, calmer mood and softer skin. It's a simple base that creates a rich foam to clean hair, but this one is really for scenting your hair with our Karma fragrance.

Orange oil smells delicious and tones scalps.

It has toning orange oil, plus pine and patchouli to help keep your scalp soothed and free of the problematic microbes that could cause dandruff.

Lavendin Oil

Lavendin oil is used in our Karma range, from soap to fragrance and haircare. It is soothing, calming and works to relax the emotions.

*My Experience with the Solid Shampoo Bar:*

• Price: $9.95 for a bar (55 grams)
• Effectiveness:  Karma Komba lathers very very well; a little bit of the shampoo goes a long way.  I've been using this bar on a regular basis for two months and I'm about half way through. Anyways, the bar leaves no residue whatsoever and makes my hair squeeky clean and sleek. The product also seems to balance the natural oils in my hair in that my hair appears less greasy.
• Cons: The bar can be a bit drying to use everyday. I circulate my shampoos, and use the Karma Komba every other day or once a week for a through clean. Another con is that the shampoo doesn't give my hair that "umph" of volume.  
• Scent: Herbally and citrusy - may take some time to get use to but the sent only lingers for 3-4 hours.
• Bottom line: I would purchase solid shampoos in the future but I'm on the fence about repurchasing Karma Komba.   I love these bars because it's great to carry around when I'm traveling, and it's an environmentally friendly product. 
• Grade: 8/10

• Shelf -life: 24 months 
• Effectiveness:  The product goes on smooth giving  my lips a beautiful and healthy sheer. The butters are light in that do not leave a heaviness or greasiness on the lips. Finally, the product hydrates and protects my lips really well from the harsh winds and cold in Calgary.  
• Con: They do not have SPF protection. =( 
• Scent: They smell sweet and delicious!
• Bottom line: Best lip butters I have ever used. I am definitely going to repurchase these lip butters and I recommend for those who face hard winters.  
• Grade: 7.5/10

The Joy of Soap: Peppermint Passion Review

The Joy of Soap specializes in making all natural, handmade soap from certified organic ingredients. This is the large 5 0z kind! I had to cut the soap into 3 pieces.

Likes/Pros:

-A delightful yummy and minty scent

-A mixture of spicy/hot peppermint and spearmint

-A gentle product that does not dry skin out

-Clean and fresh feeling after use

-A luxurious wash with fluffy bubbles

Dislikes/Cons:

-No cool, and tingly sensation after application of the soap :(

•  Price: 250mL bottle of lotion by itself would cost $16...but I got this set for free. Thanks Jen A. and Laura C. for this beautiful Peppermint Cooling Foot Lotion package from The Body Shop!
• Effectiveness: I love the lotion because it relieves the achiness from my legs and feet.  The peppermint oils and herbal infusion in the lotion provides a cool, tingly, and soothing sensation upon contact and lasts for a good 10 minutes.  It's like an instant Tylenol for my tired legs and feet. The lotion is super hydrating but lightweight. The product sinks into the skin very quickly; no mess or grease.
• Scent: Yummy pepermint
  
• Bottom line: A must have! I would defeintly purchase this lotion and I highly recommend friends and family to check the Peppermint Lotion out. =)
• Grade: 9.7/10

Incredibly soothing body lotion for troubled skin. Dream Cream is LUSH's best-selling product because it makes sore skin feel good again. Chamomile and lavender calm irritations, reduce redness and banish blotches. Mark considers it his favourite product because it makes so many people so happy.

We also use oat milk, too, which has traditionally been used on troubled skin for centuries. It contains everything nature makes for soothing your skin.

Rose and lavender essential oils are calming for irritated, suffering skin.

*My Experience with the Lotion:*

• Price: I bought a tub 240g for about ~$25.
• Effectiveness: After reading many postive reviews about Dream Cream I was convinced that I needed this product.  Best lotion I have ever used;  it's packed with every calming chamomile - great for troubled skin and stressed mind. 
• Duration: One tub lasts me for a year; a little bit of the lotion goes a long way! I use it daily on my hands and elbows, and the cream absorbs into the skin almost immediately thus leaving no greasy feeling. 
• Scent: The lotion smells herbally/floral but not an overpowering or strong scent.
• Bottom line: I am definitely going to repurchase this cream in the new year. I urge people to try this product out; you won't go back to lotions and creams on supermarket shelves. 
• Grade: 8.8/10

The oil's active ingredients are vitamin E (a fat soluble antioxidant), oleic acid (omega 9 monounsaturated fatty acid), hydroxytyrosol (plant polyphenol) and squalene (an organic compound found in human sebum).

*My Experience with the Shower Gel:*

• Results: a nice thick lather with a long lingering scent; softens and hydrates the skin for a nice glow
• Scent: warm citrusy and musky
• Cons: A very watery gel 
• Bottom line: I would not repurchase this product because the product is not thick enough. I end up spilling most of the gel.
