ZOMG Magazine Galore!

I absolutely love magazines, and my current subscriptions. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to read them so they have been stacking up in a huge pile magazines, as well as books by my bed. I look forward to the Christmas holidays, for many reasons, one of them is catching up my readings and shows.

* I don't think I'm going to subscription to Harper Bazaar next go around. I don't find the articles relatable to my lifestyle.

*I'm definitely going to keep my subscription with Elle Canada and Maire Claire.

* I think I will also stop my subscription with Architectural Digest and Ebony too.

* Town & Country is another magazine that doesn't really suit my lifestyle and interests.

* Haha, yes I read Cosmopolitan magazines. Don't judge me! I know the statistics are sketchy but I like their fashion pieces and articles....I find them super entertaining.

Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 Review

Hello Readers!

I realized it's been sometime since I have reviewed a product. Oh, how time flies! I bought the Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 for my dear brother because winter is upon us and his lips are cracked and bleeding. However, he said the balm was "yucky" and greasy. So he gave it to me to use. Score one for me, right?

The Claims about the balm:

" A Kiehl’s classic and #1 bestseller, soothing lips since 1969.
•Temporarily protects and helps relieve chapped or cracked lips.
•Helps protect lips from the drying effects of wind and cold weather.
•Formulated with soothing emollients Squalane, Lanolin and Sweet Almond Oil as well as Vitamins A and E"

What I liked about the balm:

A rich, thick and consistent texture, which reminds me of Vaseline (i.e. petrolatum jelly)
Clear/colorless
Glides on easily, effortlessly and smoothly
Brings instant relief to sore and dry lips without the heaviness or stickiness
Unlike other products that sits on top of my lips this balm moisturizes and sinks into the skin
Leaves lips smooth and soft
Lips appear to be shiny and glossy
Does not irritate the skin
A little bit of the balm goes a long way

*The applicator is blunt and uncomfortable to use...*sigh* I wish it was a slant applicator

What I disliked about the balm:

There is no applicator... I strongly dislike using my fingers to apply any lip products
It's a bit pricey 15 ml for $12.XX
Low on the SPF spectrum - it should be at least 15!
The product is mostly petrolatum jelly - I could have paid a lot less and gotten more product had I purchased a tub of Vaseline

*The balm melted into a "jelly" consistency on my skin

Bottom line: The balm is not mind blowing or awesome. It does it's job and nothing more.

Recommend? No

Repurchase? No

Homemade Ginger Honey Tea

Hey Readers,

I made ginger tea over the weekend because everyone in the family isn't feeling well. Ginger tea is a great way to treat colds, flu, and sore throats. Ginger time is super yummy; it has a spicy and invigorating taste.

Homemade ginger tea is very easy to make.

Ingredients

5 cups of water
4-inch piece of fresh ginger root
Honey
4 Chamomile tea discs

*Cups with a table spoon of honey

Preparation

1. Wash the ginger root and then slice it into thin slices
2. Add the ginger to the pot of boiling water
3. Reduce a simmer for 20-25 minutes
4. Strain the tea
5. Add a tablespoon of honey and a chamomile tea disc to each cup

* Boiling ginger in hot water

Raw Cocoa Banana Honey Facial Mask

Rationale

Bananas were on sale at the grocery store so I picked up a few extra for baking, as well as homemade face masks! Banana masks are excellent for people who have oily or acne-prone skin because the fruit acids will slough off dead skin and encourage cells to regenerate. It will also balance sebum activity and brighten the skin.

Honey is an antiseptic and antibacterial properties which means it kills germs and reduces inflammation. Since honey is an antioxidant it will keep skin healthy, supple and beautiful.

Cocoa is a powerful antioxidant that exfoliates and renews the skin. Plus cocoa slows down the aging process.

Ingredients

1 ripe banana
Honey
(Unsweetened) Cocoa powder

1. Peel one banana, and mash the fruit with a fork until smooth.

2. Add two table spoons of cocoa powder, and mix well.

3. Add one table spoon of honey, and stir well.

4. Refrigerate for 30 minutes and then apply evenly to face and neck. Avoid the eye area and corners of the mouth. Keep the product on for 15-20 minutes. Keep the left over in container, and toss after a ~~week~~ 3 days.

The product is safe to use three times a week for those who have oily/ acne-prone skin, like myself. Those who have normal/combination skin should use the product only once to twice a week to avoid over-drying the skin.

Body Burberry Perfume Review

I was slightly disgusted by my first whiff of Body. There was a sharp pain in my brain and alarm bells were going off in my head, screaming synthetic and artificial! The initial spike in fragrance hit me hard because it smelled like "skin", musk, or a stuffy c-train packed full of sweaty bodies.

After the scent calmed down my impression of the fragrance changed dramatically. It is a fresh yet dewy, clean and cheerful smell but it lacks in the "umph" department. I am very disappointed with Body. I expected a fragrance that encompasses sensuality with a touch of youth and innocence.

In my opinion, Body is not unique or memorable. I would not purchase Body because chypre floral does not suit me. For those who do purchase Body, it is a long-lasting fragrance and very wearable for everyday activities.

Highlights

Hello Readers,

Happy October! Yeah, I know I'm the world's worst blogger "evar" because I don't blog regularly. My excuse is that life is meant to be lived off the internet. Anyways, here's a recap of some of the stuff I've been up to!

Week "1": I went to school, work, and GlobalFest. I earned an A in my Human Sexuality class, and an A+ in Grief and Loss. Yay! I'll post GlobalFest photos soon!

Week "2": I worked 46 hours that week and it was hard on my personal life, as well as gym routine.
Week "3": A lot of things happened this week (X2), but I will only focus on the positive events.

I attended the annual Pride Parade with the Social Work Student Association (SWSA), and it was super awesome.

*My social work lovelies and their families. I'm in pink.

At the Pride Parade I met Mayor Nenish, and we made it on to Reddit. (Thanks Ryan for notifying me!) Click on those links to check me out!

*This is the last photo of my long hair. I said goodbye to my locks shortly after the march. I'm loving my short hair and I'll post photos soon.

Week "4": Sunday I had a dinner and Wine Night at Laura and Jen's house. Thanks ladies for everything!
On Monday I watched an advance screening of Drive (2011). Thanks Alliance for the tickets!

Drive by Nicolas Winding Refn is a film pack full of action, crime, and drama. Ryan Gosling (please, call me!) is truly a dynamic actor. Even though the movie was unpredictable and exciting, like a roller-coaster, I personally would not recommend the film to anyone. I think the scorpion theme was a too blatantly obvious, but that's not why I dislike the film. I was very, very nauseous after the movie. I was sick during the explicitly violent scenes, which contained a lot of excessive blood. I would have appreciated the film much more if there was less violence and blood.

Week "5+": From mid-September to late September I've been attending a lot of meetings and workshops. There's so much to do and so little time that my nightstand has a BIG pile of magazines (see below) and books, and my desk is cluttered with lots of paper.

On the 24th I had my blood drawn, which I don't mind at all. I dislike it when my median cubital veins play hide-and-seek with laboratory scientists and nurses. This requires them to wiggle the needle around my arms trying to find the vein, which results in pain and bruising. Haha, I now have two big bruises on my forearms. Very sexy.

My Monchichi key chain and owl necklace I ordered from the "interwebz" finally arrived. It's been over a month since I ordered from the site and now it's here! Yay!

The Monchichi key chain I gave to my mother which she absolutely adores. She loves Monchichi.

The necklace was a gift for myself. I think the necklace is fantastic in every way. Haha, in case you're wondering the answer is the necklace has yet to turn my neck green. Ohhhh, funny coincidence I saw the exact same necklace at a store in Chinook and it cost triple the price! Crazy! Finally my frugal ways and Bargain Hunting pays off!

Lucky #3: Third Batch of Fish

This summer has been has been extremely difficult for me to keep my fish and snails alive. I've been buying a batch of fish every two and a half weeks, and this is my third batch of fish that I've bought.

My first batch of 10 comet fish all but one died. Then I bought a second batch of 10 comet fish which killed the lone fish from the first batch. =(

In the second batch all but one fish died...sooooo, being the social person and an aquarium enthusiasts that I am I was eager to keep at least two fish alive, I bought a third batch of fish.

In the third batch I bought 10 comet fish and 6 twin-tailed fish. Haha, now I'm only left with one twin-tailed fish, Mr. P.

You might remember earlier this summer I bought three snails...now I'm only left with one. Mr. Snail is now in the hospital tank in my room because he was nearly sucked into the water filtering system. He's never been the same since the incident. My brother and I thought he was dead on multiple occasions but Mr. Snail was just very introverted.

So there you have it. Even fish keeping is a difficult and costly hobby. However, I think being an aquarium enthusiast is well worth my time, money and energy.

LUSH Cosmetics: Love Lettuce [Fresh Face Mask] Review

I apologize for the lack of blogging lately. I've been totally swamped, stressed and insomniac such that I have been breaking out and I think my hair is thinning too! Ahhh! From this post onwards I'm gonna slow down the pace of things and not over exhaust myself. One of my destressing regimens is using LUSH cosmetics. Today I picked up Love Lettuce at LUSH.

The Claims for Love Lettuce

"Balancing face mask for normal to oily skin. Love Lettuce is a mask that gives as it takes away. On the taking away side, you've got fuller's earth and kaolin, which are clays to dig deep and extract dirt. Then you have ground almonds and almond shells which you massage in to exfoliate away old skin cells and smooth your skin. On the giving side you have a decoction of agar agar seaweed with lots of lovely minerals to be absorbed into your skin, plus moisturising almond oil and balancing lavender to control oils. All fair in love and lettuce. Keep chilled to make sure it lasts as long as possible."

My Experience

Price: $6.95 for 60g
Ingredients: Agar Agar Gel (Gelidium cartilagineum), Kaolin, Honey, Fullers Earth, Glycerine, Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis), Ground Almond Shells (Prunus dulcis), Ground Almonds (Prunus dulcis), Lavender Oil (Lavandula angustifolia), Chlorophyllin (CI 75810), *Geraniol, *Limonene, *Linalool, Perfume
Scent: A light earthy lavender and sweet almond.
Texture: A smooth, thick and consistent paste. I found the texture of Love Lettuce was not as abrasive or thick as Mask of Magnaminty.
Lifespan: Fresh face masks have very short life spans that is two weeks and they must be refrigerated. I can get about eight to ten uses from these Lush masks.

Pros: A refreshingly cool, gentle exfoliating and hydrating face mask designed to for people with normal to oily skin. I can feel the mask deep cleaning and tightening my pores. After I washed the mask off and moisturized the bumps and red blotches on my face seemed to calmed down and my skin feeling clean, smooth and soft.

Cons: I personally enjoy wearing face masks for greater than 15 minutes. I was quite disappointed how fast Love Lettuce dried which was under five minutes. Also the mask started to flaked off my face at the seven minute mark and caused a big mess around my house, since I was getting my chores done. At that point I had to wash the mask off.

Removing Love Lettuce: I used warm water and washed off sections of the product off my face. I moved my fingers in circular motions for a deep exfoliation experience.
Bottom line: Love Lettuce is an okay face mask but I won't be repurchasing this product. I would recommend people to check out A Crash Course in Skincare, which is still by far my favorite LUSH mask.

Grade: 7.4/10

My Mail Box is Overflowing With Goodies!

This comic said it all. I like receiving emails but I much prefer snail mail. There are many, many reasons why I do but that's for another blog entry. The main reason I prefer hard copies of my magazines is because when I'm done reading them I have many uses for them. For example, I can pass them on to friends, donate them to my local community centre, and even bring them to my students and they can make colleges. If it was an electronic copy of the magazine I wouldn't be able to do any of those things!

Fekkai Advanced - Full Blown Volume Shampoo Review

I received this shampoo free early August when Holt Renfrew had a shampoo swap day.

The Claims for Fekkai Advanced - Full Blown Volume Shampoo

A quote from their website:

Transforms hair from root to tip, gently cleansing while allowing even the thinnest of strands to find their thicker, fuller potential.

Fekkai Advanced with new Hair Plumping Complex amplifies the diameter of each strand to visibly lift from roots to ends. Plump up the volume.

My Experience

Price: Usually sells for ~$28 for 236mL but I received this free
Scent: A light, fresh and clean flora scent, but it's nothing memorable or spectacular. In fact the scent reminds me of hotel shampoos. The scent does not linger in one's hair.
Texture: The clear gel-like shampoo has the perfect thick consistency in that is not watery. The Fekkai shampoo is easy to apply to hair, and it lathers well and rinses out easily.
Lifespan: This bottle for lived a brief life of three weeks in my bathroom. I usually wash my hair everyday and I use two quarter-sized amounts since my hair is long.
Pros: The product adds a natural and healthy "umph" ie volume and bounce to my limp hair without making my hair frizzy or drying it out . It also leaves my hair soft, manageable and easy to tame.
Cons: Aside from the steep price for a bottle of shampoo, the product leaves my hair a bit dull. In other words, there was no shine or gloss in my hair.
that will help tame it, and give it a natural, healthy look.
Bottom line: I personally can live without this product. I'll stick with my drug store brand shampoos- Pantene and Herbal Essences instead. I personally think one is buying an image and lifestyle when he/she purchases Fekkai Shampoos.
Grade: 8.7/10

Philosophy 3-in-1: Shampoo, Shower Gel and Bubble Bath in Vanilla Cupcake

A super-duper big thanks to Sephora for having the Beauty Insider Birthday Program! It always makes turning a year older less painful. ;) Like the title said, I received a free 6 oz bottle of Philosophy Shampoo, Shower Gel, Bubble Bath in Vanilla Cupcake.

There's two scents I absolutely love: mint and vanilla.

Packaging- As you can see from the photo the product is packaged in a semi-clear/frosted plastic bottle with a black flip-top cap. The semi-transparent bottle makes it easy to know just how much of the 3-in-1 wash is remaining.

Use - The shower gel in my opinion is gentle enough for everyday use. In other words, the wash doesn't dry out my skin nor does it make my skin feel greasy or oily. The wash lathers well -with lots of bubbles- and rinsed off easily. The product left my skin feeling clean and soft but no fragrances lingered on my skin, which was highly disappointing. Not only was the vanilla scent was not detectable on my skin, I couldn't smell the sweet fragrance wafting in my bathroom. :(

I don't commonly take baths so I have yet to use the product in bubble bath. I also didn't use the product as a shampoo. Judging from the feel of the wash I think it's better as a shower gel than a shampoo. I think the 3-in-1 would weigh my hair down. Yuck!

Scent and Texture - Weak, generic faux-vanilla pudding. The scent is very faint and the wash does not smell like vanilla cupcake at all. I will give Philosophy points for having the perfect consistency and creamy texture; the wash is not too watery and not too thick.

Bottom line: The product is okay at best. I would probably opt to try out their other 3-in-1's. I give this a 7.5/10.

Red Riding Hood [Movie] Critique

Red Riding Hood (2011) directed by Catherine Hardwicke is a fantasy, horror and mystery film that I enjoyed. The scenes were beautifully captured, and the colors are amazing. Everyone's acting was great, expect for Henry (aka Max Irons) who appeared to have one facial expression throughout the film and corny lines. My only dislike about the film was the premise of "who in the village is the big bad wolf?" which of course lead to blaming, finger pointing and what-not.

In short, I think this is a decent film to pass the time.

Just Go With It [Movie] Rant

I love Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler but the movie, Just Go With It (2011), was terrible. After 20 minutes into the movie I was bored and ended up fast-forwarding through the whole film. The characters were decently developed.

I disliked the plot and dialogues. In that, I didn't feel the authenticity of the plot because too many things in the film are far-fetched and implausible. The dialogues seemed to me were based purely on improvisation. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything funny or memorable about the movie.

In my personal (biased) opinion, avoid watching this film. You can thank me later.

Beastly [Movie] Rant

Beastly (2010) directed by Daniel Barnz is teen romance flick. Perhaps I'm a decade too old to watch such films but this modern-day take on the "Beauty and the Beast" tale was so painful for me to watch. The only reason I watched this film is because I have a school girl crush on Neil Patrick Harris. Anyways, I ended up fast-forwarding after the first 10 minutes of the film because the plot is so slow and predictable, and the dialogue was dry and boring(!). Furthermore, the characters were not only underdeveloped but they lack dimension and depth. I advise readers to go watch the Beauty and the Beast (1991) instead of Beastly.

DIY Pepermint and Green Tea Body Care

Okay, I did enough ranting about movies this past week...It's time to return to my normal entries. =)

After reading Slow Death by a Rubber Duck: How the Toxic Chemistry of Everyday Life Affects Our Health by Rick Smith, Bruce Lourie and Sara Dopp for my Human Behaviour and Environment class I started making some of my own beatuy products. This way I can minimize the amount of toxic chemicals that go into my body and also get more out of my money.

Ingredients

*A big bag of fresh papermint leaves from the grocery store

OR

*Your choice of peppermint or green tea

Uses of Peppermint Tea and Green Tea

1.) Aside from drinking they make great facial toners they control oily skin.

Instructions: Soak one tea bag or fresh peppermint leaves in hot water and then let the tea cool. Then take the tea bag or leaves out of the tea and gently dab or run the tea bag over oily spots on your face. Discard the tea bags. Let the tea dry on your face and then wash it off. People who oily skin can use this regimen twice a week, and people with combination skin should use this once a week.

2.) I put tea into a spritzer and spray it in my hair when it's greasy and limp to get they "umph" or volume in my hair.

Instructions: Soak two tea bags or the leaves in hot water and then let the tea cool. Then pour the tea in a spritzer, which can be purchased at a dollar store. You can spray the tea water in your hair when it's dry or wet. Discard the bottle of tea water after a week.

3.) You can also soak your feet in the tea to get rid of any odors.

Instructions: Soak two tea bags or the leaves in hot water and then let the tea cool until it's luke warm. Take out the tea bags and discard. Then soak your tired feet in the tub. The treatment can be a bit drying to the skin so don't forget to moisturize!

Source Code (2011), directed by Duncan Jones, is an action thriller about a solider (Colter Stevens) whose sole mission is to find the identity of the commute train bomber. I was on the edge of my seat the whole movie! I really enjoyed the ups and downs of the film and the development of each character. However, I was slightly irritated by Colter's mission of constantly reliving eight minute episodes on the train. Even though the episodes slightly different each Colter when in I was still bothered by the repetition. Overall, I highly recommend my readers to see this excellent film.

Your Highness [Movie] Critique

Your Highness (2011), directed by David Gordon Green, is an adventure film about two brothers going on a quest to rescue Fabious's kidnapped bride. I chuckled at the low brown humour at times, but I for the most part I was repulsed by the ultra lame sexual jokes and innuendos. This film is definitely not worth watching. I want my money and time back!

The Adjustment Bureau [Movie] Critique

The Adjustment Bureau (2001) directed by George Nolfi is a romantic thriller. Even though the title of the film puts me to sleep, the film delivers. I think it's scary, yet cool that the men in spiffy hats have the power, resources, energy and time to adjust our fates. I like the character David Norris and his determination to meet and stay with Elise. I found that quite endearing.

However, I felt like the movie flipped me off at the end. During the whole movie men in hats were doing everything they could to separate David and Elise, and even explained to David they both would not be able to reach their fullest potentials in life if they stayed together. Okay, I don't know about anyone else...but right now I would choose many things over a romantic relationship. Maybe my decision is based on my age right now. Anyways, near the end of the film Harry Mitchell tells the couple that their fates have been rewritten by the Chairman and they could be together. I feel like the movie played me a little, strung me along, and jerked me around. Overall, I like the film and would recommend my readers to check it out.

Something Borrowed [Movie] Critique

I'm trying something new! I've recently been inspired to review movies and not simply limit myself to cosmetics and other beauty items.

I'm shamelessly admitting that I love chick flicks. Something Borrowed (2011) directed by Luke Greenfield is a cutesy film. I can somewhat relate to the charter Rachel in that I can be shy in telling a guy I like him romantically. I've learnt to overcome that shyness because it doesn't get me anywhere in life and I've also grown a pair of ovaries. Anyways, I also understand that sometimes miscommunication and misunderstandings can happen, like in the case of Rachel and Dex.

However, I was highly irritated by about the middle of the movie with the back and forth non-sense between Rachel and Dex of "I love you, but I can't be with you" junk. One of my major pet peeves in life is people who are indecisive. Don't get me wrong now. Its okay to take time to think about something, but don't let a important decision drag on and on and on. You get my point.

Of course at the end of the film Dex and Rachel end up together. I am not bitter or a cynic, but I think this sort of circular relationships rarely happen in real life. Bottom line: it's a cute romantic film worth watching just to pass the time.

Sucker Punch [Movie] Critique

I recently watched the movie Sucker Punch (2011) directed by Zack Snyder. I know this film has been out for awhile now, but I haven't had the opportunity to watch it. I really like the accompanying music, and the visuals they were very, very stunning. The beginning scene had me hooked. The director and producers were very orientated towards capturing the fine details of objects, which I really liked. However, they lost me when Baby Doll started her fantasies in the mental asylum. I felt the story line was far fetched, and the characters were undeveloped. Bottom line: avoid renting this film it's not worth the time or money.

Pros: The product goes on the skin very smoothly, and the texture feels like a combination of velvet and mousse. A little bit, like a dime size, goes a long way. It is a lightweight luminizing primer that fills in pores, without clogging them, and sinks into the skin very quickly. I love how the primer + foundation gives me an even and nice dewy summer glow without feeling heavy or making me looking greasy. This product can be worn alone or under foundation.
Cons: No SPF protection.
Bottom line: Worth every penny! I high recommend this product and I will be purchasing this after my sample runs out.
Grade: 9.4/10

Pros: The non-sticky and non- greasy product is very moisturizing and hydrating. It is a highly pigmented lipstick that glides on super smoothly, and feels comfortable on my lips.
Cons: No SPF protection and stains my lips.
Bottom line: This lipstick is worth trying. I personally would not repurchase the product but it was nice to try a bold look.
Grade: 7.0/10

Garnier Nutritioniste Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizer Cream with SPF 15 Review

A big thanks to Garnier for sending me their Nutritioniste Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizer Cream with SPF 15.

Cons: I personally didn't see any lifting, firming, or tightening action with two weeks use of this moisturizer. I should also point out that I don't have any wrinkles or saggy skin since I'm only 23 years old. I'm using the cream as a preventative measure to minimize the signs of aged skin.

I think the manufacter tried to make this product scentless, but was not successful. I detect a faint unplesant smell from the cream but it's a managble scent.

Pros: This is a non-greasy and non-heavy moisturizer with SPF 15 that soaks into the skin upon application. The cream doesn't make my skin shiney or white after using it, and makeup sits well on top of the product.

Damn. He's One Sexy Beast.

My Expereince

Pros: This is a non-tinted, non-greasy, matte lip balm with a light and natural plesant peppermint taste.
*Packaging: The case is unisex and it is a convenient travel size to carry around in your pocket.
*Texture: The ultra creamy and hydrating balm glides very effortlessly and smoothly over lips.
*Sensation: I absoultely love how the perppermint in the product gives the lips a nice cool and tingy sensation.
*Durabilty: The moisturizing effects lasts up to approximately 2.5 hours depending on the amount applied to lips.

Cons: No SPF and the steep price. The product cost$12.XX CAD.

My Expereince

There isn't much difference between the five shave gels except the scents. They are all pretty pleasnt scents but my personal favorite would be Vanilla Dream.

Pros: I acheive a really close shave Wwith these shaving gels, and a Venus (Embrace) Razor. These gels helps my razor glide effortlessly and smoothly over my legs, and as a result I avoid razor burns, nicks and bumps.

I bought these gels when they were on sale for $2 at Shopper's Drug Mart (SDM). Yeah I'm a bargain-hunter. Anyways, I like how a little pump of the gel goes a long way. The product comes out in a gel form and then lathers into a light fluffly cream.

Cons: The shaving gel doesn't moisturize well and it leave my skin dry, itchy and irritated. I've stopped using the gels and started using Olay body wash as my shaving medium, which I don't regret. The body wash is hydrating and leaves my skin soft and silky.

Bottom line: I would only recommend this product for people who have normal to oily skin. People who have senstive skin and/or dry skin should check out their Senstive Shave Gel formula i.e. the ones who blue/green caps.

Olay Pore Minimizing Cleanser and Scrub Review

A big thanks to Olay for sending me the Pore Minimizing Cleanser and Scrub. I absolutely love the exotic floral scent of the cleanser - it's super refreshing and invigorating. This 2-in-1 foaming cleanser effectively removes makeup and oils, while the micro-beads gently exfoliates my skin. I haven't noticed any differences in my pore size with the use of this product. The cleanser leaves my skin ultra smooth, soft, clean, fresh and (most importantly) radiant.

People with oily skin, like myself, can use this product can be used twice a day. Those individuals with oily t-zone should use it at night. Finally, people with sensitive dry skin should use the ribbon cleanser once to twice a week to avoid any skin irritations.

Pros: There are 7 beautiful and highly pigmented shades to select from. There is a lot of product in the container; a container would last me with everday use about 6 months. Unlike the Rose color blush (#6308), Pink (#6311) is not an overpowering blush in that it looks natural and complements my skin tone very well. Pink is easy to apply in that it glides on amazingly smooth with a blush brush and the color lasts all day. The product is lightweight, provides good pigmentation and it is easy to take-off. Furthermore the color blends easily, and doesn't appear cakey on my cheeks.

Cons: It challenging to get to product out of the container with the "filter" lid on.

Bottom line: I would only recommend this foundation for oily skin types.

Grade: 8.9/10

My Experience

Price: $7.59 CAD for 30 mL or 1 fl oz

A blurb: There are 12 shades to select from. I purchased the liquid foundation in Medium Light 535, and I for hygine purposes I use a foundation brush to apply the makeup on. You can also use clean fingertips, a makeup sponge or cotton pad.

Pros: An affordable founation that does the job in covering up redness, evening out the skin tone and covering up large pores. The founation provides light coverage, and goes on smoothly without leaving streaks on my face. If more coverage is needed around the corners of the mouth and nostrils just apply more of the foundation; it's buildable. I'm quite pleased that the thick and creamy foundation doesn't clog pores, cause acne or blackheads, and prevents sleek, oily and shiny skin. The product looks and feels natural on my face all day long. It washes off easily with a cleanser.

Cons: The glass bottle with a screw on cap makes it challenging to get to product out. It's like playing hide-and-seek with glass ketchup bottles. The foundation has a tendancy to dry out my skin, and cause flaking. Especially avoid applying this founation near the eye area because it will cause major dryness in that region, and it will take several days for the skin to balance out.

Bottom line: I would only recommend this foundation for oily skin types.

Grade: 8.2/10

Quo Full Eyelash Adhesive Review

My Experience

*Price: $6.49 CAD

*Pros: My lashes stays put all day (eight plus hours) with the expection of slight peeling on the corners of the lashes. The glue dries clear and unnoticeable on my skin.

*Cons: This Quo glue is a total disappointment. When I placed the glue on the false lashes and near my eyes, my eyes would start burning and watering. It feels like I just dropped rubbing alcohol in my eyes.

The glue is also quite difficult and messy to use. I would have to say the Quo glue texture and consistency is comparable to the adhesive from hot glue guns. The Quo glue is very thick, sticky and stringy, and once the tube is opened the product continously oozes out. The glue is extremely stringy in that it makes my false lashes looks like I spun sugar on my falsies. The glue ruined my new falsies; I tried salvaging my falsies by cleaning the glue off my the lashes but they are a lost cause. Furthermore, if you can't adjust your false lashes if you happen to make a mistake in placement. I try to adjust my falsies and the glue started taking off my eyeshadows and eyeliner. -_-!

Okay, once the lashes are applied and the glue has dried be prepared for consistant uncomfortableness and the occasional shocks of eye pain. The glue dries rock hard, and I could feel the glue pulling on my lids whenever I blinked. I never grew comfortable with the glue; by the end of the day I just wanted to rip the falsies off.

However, you can't just peel the falsies off...oh no! Seriously don't try it, it hurts a lot! The adhesive tugged at my skin and pulled out some of my real lashes.

It's time consuming to remove from the lashes. Perhaps others have found a easier way to remove the glue. Anyhow, I applied a damp towel to my eyes and let it sit there for about ten minutes before I was able to remove the falsies.

*Bottom Line: I would not be repurchasing this latex free glue and I do NOT recommend this product to anyone.

* Grade: 3.0 /10

The high quality brush picks up a medium amount of eyeshadow, which makes for easy and precise application of the products. The brush is functional, sturdy (i.e. no hairs fall out) and stylish.

* Cons: The brush is a bit heavy and bulky in that the handle is too long.
*Bottom Line: I would definitely repurchase the "C" brush, and I would highly recommend my readers to purchase this tool.

My Experience

Price: Between $5 -$3 per buffer
Pros: I love this buffer! It is super easy and fast to use, non-scented, and creates mega glassy shine. The tear drop shape buffer is the perfect shape because it allows me to get close to my cuticle area and the edges of my nails. The shine gradually wears off after a couple of days and the nails reverts back to its natural state...say good-bye to the unkept chipped nail polish look!
Cons: The shine doesn't last long on my finger nails; about 3 days maximum.
Bottom line: It's a must have for everyone! The buffer goes on sale frequently and apply a $2 coupon manufacturer's coupon (MFC), which is commonly found in Elle Canada magazine.
Grade: 9.8/10

Yummers! I love the Oolong Tea House it is one of my favorite hang out places. I highly recommend trying their Jasmine Dragon Tears Tea. This is the best green tea I've ever had; it's sweet floral aroma is soothing and calming. I've also managed to try some of their tea samples...(see photos below)

Bottom line: An inexpensive liner that looks natural and its long lasting is worth definitely worth buying. Try to purchase this product when it's on sale for $1.50!

Colors: The quad comes with one matte white, 2 shimmery grays and 1 shimmery black.
Pros: This is a great quad! It helps me create the perfect "smokey" eye. The colors are surprisingly pigmented, silky and true to color. Use brushes or clean fingers to apply, build, and blend colors on eyelids.
Cons: The lightweight plastic compact, sponge applicator, dinky mirror and packaging makes the product look cheap and worthless, however that I was proven wrong. Do use a primer before applying the colors because the sparkles causes a lot of fallout, and the colors does fade and crease over time.
Bottom line: Worth trying!

I love how the outside of the mug is cool to the touch while my drink is hot. The colored silicone band provides a nice non-slip grip for safe handling.

Price: I got this free on Earth Day! It sells for $18for 5 fl. oz.
Pros: If you love Cetaphil, you're going to love Origins. A tiny amount of the creamy face wash lathers up very nicely, and has a light refreshing minty smell. The product gently takes off makeup effectively without drying out the skin.
Cons: The face wash doesn't give me a "squeaky clean" feeling; in fact the product leaves a film on my face. Just a side note, this film didn't cause any skin irritations or break outs for me, which is a plus.
Bottom line: Worth a try if you're looking for a new cleanser. The product is nothing spectacular that I would write home about though.

My Experience

Price: $12.00 for 0.5 fl. oz
Pros: I love the like mint jelly scent; it's not overpowering. The non-greasy, rich, thick balm brings immediate relief to sore, dry, chapped lips, and protects my lips from drying out and cracking. This balm won't cause irritations - a great product for people with sensitive skin. This is a must have for those who spend a lot of time outdoors bearing the harsh elements.
Cons: A bit pricey, low on the SPF spectrum, and doesn't have a (slanted) applicator. The balm has be applied from the squeeze tube with a finger.
Bottom line: The balm is not mind blowing. It does it's job and nothing more.
Grade: 9.2/10

L'Oreal Root Rescue is on sale at Zellers for $8.99! I bought a box for my mom to try. The L'Oreal product exceeded my expectations, as well as my mom’s. The product worked perfectly on my mom’s short black hair; it left her hair soft and shiny. The applicator brush makes it quick and easy to apply the product to her hair. Within 10 minutes her grays were evenly and naturally concealed. There was no staining to the scalp and the color blends perfectly with the color she normally uses. She'll definitely recommend L'Oreal Root Rescue and use it again between her colorings.

Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Relief Fund Donation

On March 11 one of the largest earthquakes in recorded history shook the north coast of Japan, resulting in a tsunami that swept as far as 10km inland. Thousands of buildings have been affected, and the death toll is estimated at over 10,000. We're deeply saddened by the loss of life due to the tsunami, and although initial reports have stated that Japan's sound construction techniques limited the number of casualties due to the initial earthquake, the overall results of the tsunami are still unknown.

Swagbucks is currently running a relief fund for the natural disasters which took place in Japan. They have crossed the $20,000 mark and are still going strong.
